Have you ever read the book, ‘The Little Big Things’? It’s a book about a young chap called Henry Fraser. He was 17 when he suffered a spinal cord injury (SCI). In his book he talks about his journey – if you’ve had a CSI then we’d recommend a read of it. But to summarise, he now doesn’t have the privilege of doing life’s small things for himself; being able to breathe for himself, being able to feed himself.
At ph.therapy we have seen complete and incomplete spinal cord injuries, we’ve delivered a wide range of rehabilitation plans to meet the needs of the CSI clients we’ve helped. At the beginning of your journey we’ll complete a full spinal cord assessment – which, yes, we know can be quite long. But at ph.therapy we strive for excellence and that can only be achieved by being thorough. That’s why we structure our assessments over two sessions; so that in your first session you receive some treatment, and start working towards your goals that we would have discussed in your initial session.
Sometimes some things take a bit longer and a bit shorter than we expect. Our initial session is 60-70 minutes long, but that does not mean that we are militant with the time, as midway through the session you may need some assistance with personal care or you might just need a second to rest before the next part of the session. We want to do our best to serve you, the person, and keep you centre to the care.
Want to be like Henry Fraser and overcome your SCI in your own way? The first step in this process is booking in a neurological physiotherapy initial consultation, which can be completed in your own home or in the clinic.
We’ve gone through what you can expect from this appointment, but feel free to contact us or have a look on our FAQ page for additional information.
