Multiple Sclerosis

Understanding about multiple sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis affects roughly 2.9 million people worldwide. Here in the UK it affects roughly 150,000 people, and if you’re a woman you are 2-3 times more likely to develop MS. Unfortunately, we do not have conclusive evidence of the cause of MS or why it affects this demographic of people.

In the West London area, particularly Hounslow, we are short of MS nurses. We cannot provide you the same care an MS nurse can as our roles are different, but we can help you with strengthening your pelvic floor muscles – to have better bladder and bowel control. We can help you stay active, move better and feel better; so you are in turn slowing down the disabling factors of MS.

What to expect from us

At ph.therapy we treat with care and compassion, we also aim to empower you to help you, help yourself. However, we do not beat around the bush. So here’s the unfiltered truth: for you to manage your condition and especially if your mobility or posture has already started to regress, treating your neuro physiotherapy rehabilitation journey as a matter of priority will save you time and money in the long run. It will help you to preserve your independence and give you a better understanding of how to manage your condition.

Why is it important to know what type of MS you have?

Understanding of which type of MS you have will help you to manage your symptoms, and know what to expect going forwards.

What things can be done to help MS?

Now this is where we come in. As neurological physiotherapists, we have seen many people living with MS – whether you’re still able to work, walk and get about, or if you’re in the more progressive stages, we are likely to be able to help you to better manage your condition.

How it works

All you need to do is book an initial consultation with one of our neurological physiotherapists. In this initial session we’ll do an assessment; guide you on how physiotherapy will best work for you; advise you truthfully on what you expect outcomes can look like; and we’ll send you away with a bit of homework to do to start your rehabilitation journey as soon as possible. Finally, in this initial session we will also do a bit of treatment, as we believe each contact with you should count! Our ‘people centred care’ ethos means that ultimately, we are here to serve you. As such, we just need what you’d like to work towards and if possible we will guide you there!

Worried that you will not be able to manage the length of the sessions above, due to fatigue? We serve you, you are at the centre of what we do – hence we will create a bespoke session breakdown that suits your needs.
